Crested Newts

We have discovered that we have Crested Newts in our pond, I understand that these are endanged, is there anything we should do?
 
We live in central London and they live in our pond.

Hi Whiskers, you can read about Great Crested Newts at http://www.ukbap.org.uk/UKPlans.aspx?ID=619 there may be a contact no. for a nature trust near you for advice. If they really are great crested (Male smooth newts also grow a crest during the mating season and the species are sometimes confused) and they have occupied your pond I guess the conditiions must be right for them so I'd leave well alone, do nothing but enjoy their presence.
