Need help.

My dad loves writing and involves in many discussions in the news magazines and spends lot of time in writing. I told him about the Forums and Blogs but he is reluctant, as he never used computer and internet. He is skeptical about adopting the modern tech. How best I can change his mind ?

We share knowledge/tears/jokes/music/arguments/debates. He should not live in a 'time-warp' but embrace new technology and keep his mind alert. Young-uns need guidance and advice and can get it from this site.

He may be a specialist in a field and his knowledge would be invaluable.

serena my mum is such a techno phob,she will not even look at the computer,says that she is not interested she is a clever woman, i think the majority of older eople are scared of technology!!!

My granda got a computer for his 78th birthday as he wanted something to keep him busy after my granny died. Hes doing a family tree and found some old friends on there who hes been too see. Its really nice. He's 80 now and hes better than me I reckon. And he's got facebook!

My mum is like that, just doesn't want to learn.

I respect that by loking stuff up for her and showing her how much info she could find on line, showing her pics of family on Facebook, looking up people on friendsreunited for her and general stuff like looking up shows and booking tickets and ordering things like presents.

I don't push her but will sometimes put something on the screen and let her just look, show her how to scroll etc... and just let her be for a bit (make and excuse like making a cuppa).

More often than not they don�t change their minds unless you prove the computer is not the monster they visualize it to be. I think, he might be little apprehensive about getting started. Convince him, that the internet is there and if he can enjoy and have online interaction benefit from other seniors. You can probably get BigScreenLive.com software, which will help him learn faster. Many people usually find a lot to do with computers once they learn it.
