Parking lines!

Over the weekend, I was issued with a ticket by Leeds Council for failing to display a valid parking ticket. I had moved from another pay-and-display car park before my ticket ran out and managed to find a space along with another two vehicles whilst i checked out of the nearby hotel. I had only parked there due to the fact i saw no obvious parking restrictions, ie, signage/road markings and thought my luck was in! A perimeter fence being used by a construction company was encroaching onto the one-way road, so the three vehicles were parked with two wheels on the pavement (allowing vehicles to pass through). It should be noted that the pavement in question was on a quite back street, adjacent to a large brewery, with very little foot traffic. My point is that the parking bays were not clearly visible, nor were any parking signs, and actually, had i parked in a 'bay' my car (and the others) would have completely blocked the one-way system because of the proximity of the builders fence!!!
I've taken photos of the area and I'd like to know if i stand a chance if i contest this?
Thanks.
