In addition the Lat from Latvia is only just lower than the Pound. At the moment it is 1.0082 to the Pound so a small change in the exchange rate would see it joining the currencies above.
You are used to hearing these in the UK because the rate at which the pound buys foreign currency is most relevant to people in the UK. Sterling is currently the strongest currency in the world, but this could easily change.
The foreign exchange market is the biggest market in the world, operates 24 hours based mainly in London, New York, Tokyo, and Singapore, and is worth $1.5 trillion a day (that's one thousand billion).
Currency pairs i.e. dollar/sterling, have been known to change 18,000 times in a 24 hour period. Trading currencies has enormous potential for profit, and of course, loss.
