Redundancy - entitlement to benefits
My dad is about to be made redundant aged 62. Not likely to get more than the statutory redundancy payment. My mum is drawing the state pension and they have savings of around 16,00. He has also been paying into a private pension scheme (not a work scheme) My question is: will he be entitled to jobseeker's allowance/pension credit while looking for another job or will they expect him to start drawing on his private pension? Can the private pension be disgarded entirely, as he is not yet 65 and wants to keep paying into it and not lose his bonus etc or, for benefit calculating purposes, will it be be treated as some form of 'notional income'? Would be grateful for any help on this, have scoured the internet but not found an answer so far!
