If not take it tip do not hand any money over untill the car has been checked otherwise you will be very very sorry, regards the receipt, Date, day, month, Reg,Colour, make, CC, Petrol/derv, price, either cash or Cheque, Cheque No, Warrantee (If any) get the other persons Land line No + Mobile, His/her address, you need all documents for the car+History (If any) this might sound stupid if the car has alloy wheels with a lock secure nut make sure it is in the boot or wherever.
we have examined it thoroughly so unless hes supernatural at hiding faults its a sound car. its a sale between 2 private people so I assume i can't expect a warranty ? I just really want proof of purchase, not that i expect him to turn round and say that I stole it but better sure than sorry, how exactly should I word it then just wright a little paragraph saying that person x is selling such and such car to person y for z amount ?
Geez TWR, I'm glad I've never tried to sell you a car.
You should make your own checks to ensure that you does own it and that there is no outstanding finance - I trust you've done that already.
Apart from that: Received from Thunderchild, the sum of x in full payment for vehicle [description etc]. Dated and signed. That should do the trick. Its more for your records as you have no comeback on the deal. I trust you realise that, as a private sale.

When I recently sold my car as seller, I wrote out a receipt/notice which basically stated that I had received the said sum of money (cash) from the buyer (name & address), including car details (make, model, registration etc), plus my details (name & address), and included the time and date of transaction.
I wrote out a duplicate, both parties signed the documents and took our own copy. The buyer completed the relevant section on the V(whatever) document for me to return to DVLA, to notify them of the sale of the car/change of owner.

I take it that there has been no HPI check then. You need to do one.

Without it you don't know whether it's stolen, whether there is outstanding finance (which means the finance company may own it and can claim it back!), whether it's a write off, etc
You are taking a big risk without one
