In the 1990's a friend worked on a Smartie ad and one of the "tests" for the kids auditioning was for them to draw round their hand. It was actually to see who had the smallest hands to make the Smarties look bigger!

I hardly ever saw any TV ads because my mother regarded ITV as being 'common' and normally refused to have it on. However, she did have a weakness for Coronation Street and the muscular males taking part in the Saturday afternoon wrestling, so I got to see a few ads.
I vaguely remember Katie and the Oxo family, the Milky Bar kid (who, even at that age, I regarded as incredibly irritating), Esso Blue, the Mars ads which claimed that 'a Mars a day helps you work, rest and play', Mackeson which 'looks good, tastes good and by golly it does you good' and 2001 which 'cleans a big, big carpet for less than half a crown'. My favourite (as far as I can remember) though, might have been Esso's 'tiger in your tank' ads.

Thank's for all the replies they bring back lots of memories. I can't remember that Smartie ad tonynclark but typical of advertising trying to make things look bigger. Someone was talking about Curly Wurlys a few days ago, they are actually three times smaller today than the original ones. The Smash ads with the metal martians were very quirky scragend. Souldriver they showed the Accrington Stanley ad on tele yesterday I wonder if Ian Rush cringed.I agree the Rowntree ad was very catchy Crisgal. Petunia and Joe wouldn't be very PC today No.knowledge.There seemed to be an awful lot of sweet ads Beejay. Buenchico my boyfriend had one of the Esso tiger tails hanging from the rear view mirror for years. The Pilsbury Dough Man was very cute 1955. Again I can't remember that ad Elvis. trt that Hovis ad will go on forever. Chuck don't get me going !!that Shake and Vac ad was probably the most hated ad ever.
