I've had ADSL for 5 yrs now with Tiscali (They took over Worldonline which took over Screaming net). I am on adsl silver at 26.99 p/m (an old wol package) but Im getting the same 512kb adsl that Tiscali offer for 15.99 p/m. After months of promises and being past from pillar to post, they tell me they can't switch me from my current package to one of their new ones without cancelling my account and then I'd have to wait 15 - 18 days to be reconnected. (I know ex LineOne customers too have had difficulties escaping Tiscali.. the ISP from hell.. with customer service in India). I'm looking for unlimited d/l (or at least a reasonable limit), free webspace for my website (with no ads on it), decent speed, either 512kb or 1mb, and a price that is reasonable. Tiscali have refused to give me the Migration Key to give to another provider. I want no disruption in service, or a max of 7 days. Anyone have any suggestions? (I've looked on net4nowt).

Am also on asdl and its horrible but like you have no choice.
Try this one: http://www.centi.co.uk/
My daughter in Liverpool uses it and is highly delighted.
I cannot recommend anything from personal expperience as I live in Hull and the only one available to me is Karoo provided by my local telephone company who have a monopoly in the area. I would love to have a choice.

Go on NTL, for 17.99 you get 1MB monthly, with a 3gig limit, however, if you can afford it go for the 2MB at 26.99, with a 1gig limit EACH DAY! more than enough lol. Rich

Centi is also 17.99 but has NO limits and does NOT require you to sign up for a 1yr minimum contract which makes it ideal for students who move lodgings at the start of each new year.
My daughter even received a hand-written Xmas card from the staff at Centi which shows the personal touch, unlike an impersonal organisation such as NTL.
For what reason are Tiscali refusing to give you your migration code? Are you still under contract with them?
Try thr website www.uswitch.com Is lits all the available services in your area, It also list cancellation policies, contract details etc. Bare in Mind that BT Yahoo broadband is increasing all in customers to the highest line rate at no extra charge. i.e. Im 512k to 2mb for the same 26.00

Thank you all for your answers. Dodgyshirt, I will phone centi and see what they can offer.. they seem like a small ISP with a personal approach. Adampy, I've looked on the uswitch site and can't go any further without a migration code.  Daisy13, I am NOT under a 12 month contract with Tiscali, that expired many years ago. Tiscali just told me that they do not give out migration codes to customers.

I am thinking of reporting Tiscali to the Watchdog and/or the office of fair trading. If you go on the net4nowt website (http://www.net4nowt.com) and read the reviews from Tiscali customers you will see why they are the ISP from hell. People have big problems in trying to leave them. Their offers of cheap broadband lure their victims into their trap. I'd advise anyone to pay the bit extra and go with another ISP.  I see virgin also have a no 12 month fixed contract broadband service as well..not sure of d/l limits off the top of my head.

For your info, my 512kb ADSL connection is more 300 -450 than around the 500 mark.

Thanks Kev, its nice to see an acknowledgement for once.

I wish you the best of luck in changing your ISPand hope we have all been of help to you in some small way.
