Am I right in saying that farm traffic should pull over every so often to let the other vehicles pass? If so, for how long can they slow you up before they are obliged to pull over?

any farm vehicle driven on a public highway must have tax and insurance, and does not have to give way to any other vehicle.the fact that they do is down to whoever is driving
Highway Code Rule 169:

'Do not hold up a long queue of traffic, especially if you are driving a large or slow-moving vehicle. Check your mirrors frequently, and if necessary, pull in where it is safe and let traffic pass.'

Note though that this rule does not use the word must, so it is not a legal requirement.

Norman, many farm vehicles do not have to have tax paid, although they do have to display a tax disc.
. . . but it is an offence to drive 'without reasonable consideration for other persons'.
(Section 3ZA of Road Traffic Act 1988, as amended by the Road Safety Act 2006)

What farm vehicles don't have to have tax paid to drive on the public highway PB?

News to me.

Thanks to all for this! It is just infuriating travelling for miles, sometimes, with nowhere safe to overtake.
The driver of the slow moving vehicle does have to drive with due care and consideration for other road users, Sec 3 of the Road Traffic Act.
I have heard that in some of the more rural areas the police have been pulling drivers who have caused long tail backs under this law, not just tractors etc, any slow moving vehicles, cars with caravans etc.
