Some debts are statute barred after six years have lapsed since any contact from the debtor - this includes phone calls, letter or personal visit.
However, this does not apply if the debtor has moved and failed to inform the creditor of the new address.
So, if you have not moved house, and have not been in contact with the company or its agent since 2002, it is statute barred.
This means you still owe the money, it will still show on your credit records and you can still be asked to pay, but they can't take you to court.

have come across this company before, my daughter had some hassle from them over someone elses debt !,
they have a reputation for cutting corners and breaking rules.
In my daughters case they just sent demands to everyone in the area with a similiar name to the person they were chasing hoping to find them. Even though i am led to believe this is against the financial services act (im sure Ethel will confirm this) they were quite open about there tactics.
