can anyone advise why my mouse has stopped working on my laptop today, but when I put it in a friends latop, it worked fine? x

Assuming it is a USB mouse, check if anything else works in the USB port on your laptop.

Check Device Manager (Control Panel / System / Hardware) to see if it says anything about the Mouse or USB ports.
