10 Answers
I would really appreciate help. My father who is 69 and lives with my Mam 67 previously had bowel cancer which he has never really recovered from. After having diarrhoea for 3 months which is under investigation he has developed abcesses and a fistula which means he is incontinent , he needs help with dressings and bathing they also have extra expense for washing clothes, heating and hot water. does anyone know if he will be entitled to benefits . They do have savings but not much.

If you telephone The Pension Service 0845 60 60 265 they can arrange a home visit for someone to go through every benefit your father/mother could apply for.
He could apply for Attendance Allowance and if obtained your mother could apply for Carers allowance. Because she is receiving Retirement Pension she will not actually be able to receive any money but will get what is called Underlying Entitlement.
Once these benefits are in place they could apply for Pension Credit. If they are entitled to this then the rate they get will be increased with a Carers Premium because of the Underlying Entitlement.
Hope this helps
