My Mums computer boots up strangely. When they switch on, a page of writing comes up and they have to press F2 to start it. Any ideas???

sounds like the bios is asking for a confirmation .... about something or other
it would help to know what some of the writing says ..

if it IS the bios there are two possibilities....
something has changed ... because it's faulty

how old is the machine?
if the battery goes flat ... and the machine isn't used all the time ... the bios gets amnesia and forgets - so it will say something like

blah blah blah press f1 to configure or f2 to continue
