Enzyme Catalase Investigation
I am currently a student studying a diploma, i've been given an assignment on enzyme catalase, where i had to carry out an investigation on yeast reacting with hydrogen peroxide, and then recording the o2 release, however now i have been asked to make a table evaluating the reasons for which i choose to do the gas syringe method and not use the water bath, cylinder method, its really frustrating me because i don't have the slightest clue, i just thought it was easier to do, he has asked me to use the strengths of my chosen method and compare the weaknesses in the method i rejected in a table....SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as the syringe is concerned, think about accurate gas volumes due to smaller graduations. think about cost of the syringe compared to the cylinder method, think about the need to be dry and friction in system causing pressure fluctuations and possible leaks. Think about simplicity of set-up.Think about the need for dryness of the syringe.
With regard to the cylinder method, think about the cost effectiveness of the equipment, meniscus problems, counting of bubbles, influence of air pressure and relatively complicated set-up procedures.
Don't panic too much about this type of question. If you sit down and think logically about it from when you sourced the equipment right through to the results, you'll be able to ask yourself whether the problems might have arisen had you choosen the other method.
