air raid siren

okay, i have an issue. everytime i hear the air raid siren i sort of break down a little, i start flushing really hot, get very scared and sometimes cry just becuase of this sound. i can't watch films with them in and i am forever lokking at films before i see them in the cinema incase they use it. and, heres the kicker, i'm only 17! is it common or not really? and is there a name for what i experience?

As a schoolgirl, I remember they used to test the town siren every few months. Of course we didn't know what it was. But the teacher would make a gloomy announcement that we would hear a strange noise and it was nothing to worry about.

And it wasn't. Though the look of fear on her face showed that for her, at some time, it certainly had been.....

My dad was a Police Sergeant many years ago and we lived in a house attached to the Police Station. The local fire brigade had no permanent staff and the retained firemen were summoned from their daily jobs by the sounding of a fire siren. Since there was always someone on duty at the Police Station, they got the job of starting the siren. Technology being what it was in the late 50s this was achieved by the pressing of a button and by the expedient of mounting the siren on a large pole which placed it about 10 feet from our bathroom window!

This may not have been frightening in the way lumination finds it, but it was certainly attention-grabbing and I still dream about it from time to time.

I was only saying to my boyfriend the other day how much I hate the sound of an air raid siren! I don't encounter it as much as lumination but the sound does make me feel a very irrational fear for my life!

I've just always assumed it was a past life... Or maybe I was just a very impressionable child and history lessons about the war has left an impact on my imagination!
