The tops of my arms are always bright red all year round. I always go sleeveless in good weather but wear a good sunscreen, they have been like this for about 20 years - I am now in my 60s? It is possibly caused in summer by the sun through the windscreen in the car, but why still in winter when I cover up?

Do they feel sore and burned, or is it just the appearance?

Do you mean the bony top of your arm/shoulder or the fleshy parts a little lower?

Hi Sheann, I live in the Alabama (United States). I have had the same problem with my arms for almost 10 years. I recently when to a skin specialist at the University of Alabama here in the states. She told me what I have is called Poikiloderma. It is also known as Poikiloderma of civatte in adults. Is caused by skin exposure (radiation) to the sun. Most adults will develop this on their face, neck, chest and occasionally on their arms. She told the redness will probably never go away, but I can prevent it from worsening by use sunscreen every day when exposed to the sun even if I am riding in a car. Hope this information will help you.
