umax scanner wont load

due to a power failure i had to re-install xp on my pc and for the first time since i had it the scanner will not work
i have done everything i can but still says
FAILED TO OPEN THE TWAIN DRIVER
ive done re-install of the umax driver done add new hardware changed the usb port connection over and over but nothing makes it work
any clues please

uninstall everything

is the diver definitely XP? umax was originally a 95/98 scanner

install the driver .... connect the scanner ... install the twain

Silly one here, sure you have done it.

the first time you want to scan after installing the drivers look for a select source option in the software first and make sure the scanner is selected.

yes the scanner is a astraslim s.e. never had a prob before used it for a few years and no need for new one (when it works) its been on my windows 98 then xp pro working ok i have un-installed everything then loaded the drivers and then it asks for two more downloads from the cd which it finds,
the device is listed in my hardware believe me i,ve done everything as other times I've had to set it up again,used to be a minutes job

this is what i'm getting on trying to load my scanner
"cannot install hardware-the class installer has denied the request to install or update this device
any clues?
it cant be the driver it the one on the umax disc and ive always used that

I assume you are in as an administrator?

XP - which servicepack?

have you tried the control panel | scanners and cameras wizard (bit of a straw!)

ac thanks for your assistance and chuck,
i took out all 11 usb plugs and did a restart then installed the umax again and its got it working hope it still works when the 10 other usb's go back in
