So I find christmas quite sad in that respect.
Another thing that riles me, are my elderly mother's neighbours. My mother is 82 and housebound, she lives in a small sheltered bungalow complex and none of her neighbours, bar one will ever pop in to say hello or see how she is.
However, come December, they all start sending gifts and cards. What a complete and utter sham, how can you only remember your neighbour for one month of the entire year. It makes me so angry.

Why do we have adverts with snow and log fires and alike,we have this cosy concept of christmas that the manufacturers and the media cling to as it makes people go out and buy the dream of christmas, cant be bothered with it,when the tide turns and we go back to the real meaning of christmas then i will be happy!!!

Inapickle, Maybe you and your partner, finances permitting, can go away every Christmas, even to a hotel, where everything is laid on. It will be very hard to escape it all in the West.
We are having our first Christmas together and I will have my elderly mother over. I feel I have to make the effort for her, as it maybe her last one. Ideally, I would just like to go away somewhere with my partner and bypass all the usual festivities.
