i use internet dial-up, i have no trouble connecting to the internet but no matter what site i try to visit i always get 'unable to display page'. i have checked my settings, privacy, content and modem and everything apppears to be in order. my laptop is fairly slow and always seems to connect at around 46 kps, could this be the problem. please help.
p.s. - i have several spyware/adware applications (these are not always running) and, as far as i'm aware, i do not have a firewall.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.You said that you have no trouble connecting to the internet. How are you confirming this.
One way to confirm your internet is working is to open up a command prompt and ping an external address e.g.:
ping www.google.co.uk
you should get 4 replies. if you don't, and you are sure you have a connection, it could be a DNS problem with your ISP. Try pinging the IP address in the same way e.g:
ping 66.249.87.104
If this is working ok, then type the IP address into your web browser to see if it will locate the site using the IP address. If this doesn't work then perhaps your settings within IE are not set to use your dial-up connection. Check Tools-Internet Options-Connections.
Hope this helps.
