Christmas cards at work

Am I alone in being annoyed at the annual falseness of giving christmas cards to all and sundry at work because they've given you one? Personally, I only give cards to the folk I actually like and want to give a card to.

agree monty, we also do the secret santa with a limit of �10,but some go totally overboard with really upmarket wrapping,and more than a ten pound gift,makes me feel that my present isnt good enough!!

The dreaded Christmas card exchange at work used to do my head in too.

Fortunately, I had an office of my own ,so kept a spare box of cards in my drawer, to write out & pop onto a desk or two a bit later!

we have a big card pinned up on the notice board. instead of sending individual cards, you sign it, and make a donation to charity. i think some charities will supply the card and moneybox... from memory it was cancer research or mcmillan last year.

I think that's a good idea anutflo. I'll still give cards to the folk who I really like at work but won't be seen as being a miserable git for not giving a card to every single co-worker.

What a complete fiasco this makes of the whole business of sending Christmas cards.

Instead of giving cards to colleagues (and there were about 40 of them) I used to give a donation to Charity to one of my colleagues who helped the Salvation Army on Christmas day to provide meals for those in need. I informed everybody in an email wishing them a Happy Christmas. I was actually told I was mean spiritied and mean by one person.

in our office we're supporting Macmillan instead of sending cards, we do this every year now and more and more people each year decide to donate some cash rather than giving out cards.

The NSPCC are doing a 'Card Free Christmas' this year. The idea is the same as above. The NSPCC supply a big seasons greetings poster which can be displayed in your office and instead of everyone sending cards to all and sundry, you can just write one message on there to everyone wishing them all a happy christmas. Then you just make a donation of whatever you would normally spend on christmas cards to the charity by sending it all off in the envelope they provide.

Before I retired I used to buy a box of biscuits/chocolates and put a Christmas card alongsie wishing everybody seasons greetings. JD

The idea of Christmas cards is to send to people who you don't see regularly.

I wish my neighbours and members of groups I belong to 'Merry Christmas' and send a donation to a charity.

It's all got out of hand.
