AntiVirus Trigger

Hi all, I am at the moment trying to help my mate out who has unwittingly got AntiVirus Trigger on his laptop. The laptop now won't connect to the internet so I am unable to download anything that could kill it. I have tried manually searching for the harmful files after finding a list of what to look for but the laptop cannot find any such files. Could someone please explain in simple 5 year old lingo what to do?! If it's dead he can accept that, just need someones help if there is a possibility of bringing it back to life? Many thanks
