Poshest bands

Conventional wisdom has it that the best rock'n'roll comes from suffering or anger of some sort - hence a loose correlation with working classes. But who are the poshest bands around ? Radiohead are nice public schoolboys (mostly) as were Genesis (rock n roll ?), Sophie Ellis Bextor is posh, and I read that the guitar player from Weezer went to Harvard (which suggests poshness). The guy from Kula Shaker - Crispian Mills was posh too. Any others ?

The argument doesn't always hold up, but there are examples, as you say. Ironically, the 'pretty and clean' Beatles were scallies (Lennon excepted) and the 'ugly and dirty' Stones were from reasonably well-off backgrounds.

Coldplay's Chris Martin grew up in a huge country pile in Devon. Also Turin Breaks formed at a posh public school called Ardingly in Sussex.

(Nothing I've read in the question or answers so far suggests that conventional wisdom is wrong: this reads so far like a collection of some of the least listenable music of all time!)

The most tedious and over-rated band of the moment (imo), 'The Strokes' are all from pretty well off Nu Yawk families, as are the Beastie Boys. Sadly departed Joe Strummer of the Clash/ Pogues and Mescaleros fame was the son of a diplomat, despite his working class persona. Kate Bush is very middle class as is Will Young. Jethro Tull are very middle class, as were at least 3 of Queen. And finally, although fictional, Spinal Tap's Nigel Tufnel is really a Lord! (well, the actor who plays him is...)
