I go get mine put back in by an osteopath, expensive but it works if the rib is actually out of place.
I also have problems with the bits where the ribs meet at the front and back getting inflamed and the pain is horrible.
I can't take antiinflammatories so GP gave me some strong painkillers.
Sometimes leaning over can help a bit, maybe takes the pressure off a bit.

Ouch!!
Hi Ruthann and Jen. I second everything Jen says! At the moment, I don't think mine is actually out at the moment, but I am still in pain around one shoulder from the inflamation Jen talks about. It just seems to be an ongoing problem I am stuck with. It might be to do with my general arthritic problems. When the rib is actually out of place the osteopath works wonders.
Mine is worse in the morning - I think it's something to do with the fact that I sleep on my side and put pressure over my ribcage - but that's only a guess.,
It really is a horrible pain. :o(
