i am looking to buy some skates for frequent use at my local rink when with friends as i am fed up of using their smelly old skates! what would anyone recommend?

Hello madmondeo , I would recommend a basic pair of Risport Ice-skates with a figure blade rather than a hockey .
The figure blades are double edged for superior grip and balance when cornering , plus they have the teeth grips on the front , used for jumps in figure skating but for casual skating they help in stopping for example.
You should be able to order them from either the rink staff , shop , or one of the professionals who teach at your rink.
The basic Risport come in black or white and retail from around �40 . x
