To me jihad is generally about Muslim perseverance in being a good Muslim and being Godly in a peaceful way. Of course some will interpret this to mean stamping out anyone who disagrees is being a good Muslim, but very few still go along with the Jihad al-sayf principal of outright attack (with sword).
So yes, you are wrong. I suppose you would generate a similar reaction from the Islamists if you mentioned the word �crusade�. To them it still means a lot more today than it does to us, and brings about anti-western feelings all by itself.
