I used to go to a respite and holiday centre for the severely disabled for a week over Christmas (and at other times). Used to be called Winged Fellowship but now called Vitalise I think.
It was hard work but I had some fantastic Christmasses there and I always though the best christmas you can have is the one you give someone else.
Guests used to put their name in if they would be alone at Christmas or in a home or similar and then they would draw names out of a hat for them to come free.
As many of the volunteers also wanted to be somewhere else for Christmas everyone it was kinda a lets make it great for everyone kinda thing.
I am still in contact with quite a few people from back then and have some fab photos and memories I'll always treasure :)

My friend is in the same situation and last year she booked herself into a nice hotel in London and went to work as a volunteer in a homeless shelter...she has since said that it made her feel fantastic and she felt like she made a real difference to other people in less fortunate circumstances....she is doing it again this year.
When I was 19 I was alone on Christmas day in Edinburgh and was dreading it. In the end I stopped feeling sorry for myself, bought a nice bottle of wine and some really lovely food and just lounged around all day watching films on TV - it was actually okay you know ! Concentrate on the positives and try to make the most of it. Lots of love. xxx

I've asked a question similar to this a few minutes ago. It's my 1st Christmas without my wife, and my kids are grown up so I don't want to stop them having fun. Course they'd rather stay with their old dad but it's not fair on them. I've been asked out for drinks by an online friend's brother. but I don't know him and I'm too depressed to make an effort to make new friends.
