Has anyone out there got an old fashioned receipe for this broth? I like to cook veg soups in a pressure cooker, does barley need to be soaked or cooked longer beforehand?

I do veggie soups in the slow cooker, and I generally let my barley, etc soak overnight in cold water, then let it cook along with the other stuff. Depending on when I want it, I may par boil my veggies first.
I usually soak the barley in some water for a while (half an hour or so) before making the soup, but last time I was making soup I forgot to do this and just bunged it in with the soup.

I just cooked it for an hour instead of half an hour and it was fine!
