don't think it's a wild hare. Sounds more like some breed of rabbit that has got lost. wild hares are wild - nad nervous of people

I have seen Belgian Hares sold as pets.  These are actually a type of rabbit but look like hares.  Perhaps it has escaped from its owners.  See this link.
