I've got an odd problem with a dvd I've just bought. It plays perfectly on my PC and on the built-in player in my Daewoo TV in the bedroom, but on my Sharp dvd player in the living room I only get a monochrome picture. Other disks play fine on this machine. I thought at first that it might be the wrong region since the disk does not have anything on it to say which region it is, and I'm pretty sure the Sharp machine is not multi-region, but the paperwork from play.com definitely says it is region 2 , so that should be ok. Anyone got any brilliant ideas (someone usually has!). Thanks in advance.
not brilliant ....
just a simple bit of deduction
plays on 2 not on 1 ...
a fair bet 1 isn't working as well as other 2
although I'd have expected a bought DVD to be more reliable than a burned one.
It's posible that the disc is slightly out ... but more likely player
from your puzzlement that others are OK?? (all bought or a mix with burned?)
probably best to just use it as long as you can with your other discs but start saving for a new one
Thanks to you Chuck and AC. I think Chuck has probably got it right and the disk is NTSC. Its the Eagles Hell Freezes Over , so is an American recording. The Sharp dvd player was pretty cheap several years ago so is probably not very versatile and the Philips telly its connected to is ancient. Just have to hope I win the 42" JVC telly in the pub draw next week!
Again, thanks to both of you for your input.
Yes...its the TV. I plugged the DVD player into the Daewoo telly and it played ok, so the ancient Philips telly doesn't support NTSC.
Chuck is right yet again!
