For some reason, in Word (not sure which year) when I press the tab button to indent a paragraph the text jumps to the middle of the page instead of just a cm or so to the right. How can I resolve this? I've already right clicked and gone to 'paragraph' but this ony worked for the line the cursors on, not any of the others.

Have you tried moving the little sliders at the top on the ruler?
its set as a centered tab
you can set tabs as left, right or centre, or have them with a row of leading dots, or to decimal points

to see the settings and change them go to FORMAT, then TABS
