If a licence is automatically revoked for a new driver on receiving 6 penalty points and that person drives without a qualified driver next to him, can he still be insured if the vehicle is insured? Or is the insurance automatically invalidated when the licence is revoked as it is when a driver is disqualified? - Thanks

In these circumstances the licence is not lost and the driver is not disqualified. His full licence is revoked and he reverts to provisional status.
This means that if he is insured to drive as a learner such insurance will not be invalidated if he fails to comply with the provisional licence conditions (L plates and an accompanying qualified driver). Invalidation only occurs when the driver is disqualified.
