Is anyone doing this competition today? I guess we are in Fife in Scotland, but really struggling with the answers. Any help appreciated.

If you've deduced, correctly, that it is set in Fife then you must have solved at least one of the clues. Which ones are you stuck on?

Carry out a Web search for "jackdaw fife". At least 2 of the hits when I tried this just now with AB search engine should help you.

So far, I have Sir Robert Lorimer as the architect born in 1864 who designed the war memorial at Edinburgh castle. What is the castle he helped restore?
The reference to Jackdaw must be HMS Jackdaw at Crail.
Need help with the first castle mentioned.

If you've found Crail and think the architect is Lorimer, look for castles in that part of Fife that he might have been associated with. Retrace your steps back from Crail to see which direction you should be looking.

Have you got the name of the lighthouse? Is it Fife Ness Lighthouse?

I have a detailed road atlas of Britain (Philip's Navigator 1.5 miles to the inch) that I use to follow the clues. However, even this does not show the answer to the second question. In such cases I turn to the on-line resource MultiMap which has the OS 50000:1 map series available:

I need to thank Etch for this steer. I had sorted most of the rest before going to bed last night (it appears on timesonline around 10pm on Saturdays), but I had not got the castleless castle.

In fact, I liked Etch's earlier steers, not giving the answer, but putting people on the right track and giving some encouragement. Bravo.

Many thnks for your help, Etch, which has help me produce the second answer.
I have the name of the Mohawk Indian (John Norton in English) but cannot trace that to a harbour village.

Other than using the letters from his Mohawk name to confirm the answer to the second question, I shouldn't worry about John Norton's place of birth: despite extensive searching I can't find anything to link him with the harbour village either. Instead, think about the distance and direction the compiler has to travel from the harbour village to take a picture of "the old jackdaw". The location of the latter can be seen in the MultiMap link I posted earlier.
