carbon produced by manufacturing a car
I read recently that a green car is a used car. Unfortunately beyond pointing ut that MANUFACTURING a car produces a lot of CO2 there was nothing to back up the assertion.
Does anyone kno how much CO2 is emitted by all aspects of the production of a typical car?

I saw a figure recently that covered the design and manufacture. They said six tonnes but gave no source references and it no doubt depends on the size and type of the car. I have no idea if it is accurate.
You might want to check my maths too.
When burned a litre of petrol produces about 2.5kg of CO2. So making the new car is similar to burning 2400 litres of fuel.
If the old car does 6 litres per 100km it will burn 18,000 litres travelling 300,000km. A car that used 5 lites per 100 km would more than cover the cost of its manufacturing over the same distance.
