Would anyone on AB give up their pet?

Just watching London Tonight and there is a report about Battersea Dogs & Cats Home being overrun due to abandoned pets. People are giving up their pets to save money. That is just so sad. I could never give up my cats because of the credit crunch. I would rather buy them cheaper food and search for cheaper insurance than give them up.

Aww, Jules! I shouted at Sheri the other day because I tripped over her in the dark. Then I cried because I felt bad. Tsk. It's not her fault she's black, is it? :)

I had to leave Tigger overnight at the vets last year and it nearly killed me. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to not have Tigger or Blue here with me.

ABSOLUTELY NOT, NO WAY, NEVER.
I would rather stave than give up my 2 Golden Retrievers. I bloody adore them. I would sell my car, go without food and totally tighten my belt in order to provide for them. These 2 wonderful hounds are part of my family and are loved so much by us all.

I love my cat far too much to give her away.
As others have said I would rather give up something else than to give my cat away.

No. I'd have to become destitute to even consider it, and even then, I'd make sure she goes to a friend, or at least someone I have picked out myself. Certainly not to a refuge. If for some reason, I had to go back to France, she'd come with me, no matter how difficult it would be to arrange.
God knows she drives me nuts sometimes, but I wouldn't change her for the world!
