exhaling smoke substance
2 Answers
My grandmother is 96 and has never smoked a cigarette. She currently uses an oxygen tank. Sometimes it appears as if she is exhaling smoke. This has been noticed by several people but her primary care physician dissmissed it. Anyone have any experience with this symptom?

When I'm having dificulties in breathing I find I'm breathing out through persed lips, as you say, as if I'm exhaling smoke. Don't know why but it seems to help. My sister who had an oxegen tank did the same thing.
The reason you find it easier to breathe when blowing out through pursed lips is to do with the exchange of gases. It helps to remove carbon dioxide, a build up of which can cause worsening shortness of breath.
