Cold radiators

I have a radiator upstairs in house which is cold on bottom and hot on top. I have turned all other rads off,then the suspect rad is warm all over.

Have now literally cracked open all other rads,which are warm all over,but now problem has returned again. System is only 2 years old. It is one of the furthest away from boiler.

All rads have trvs fitted except for bathroom ones. Does it matter if ive restricted wrong side on bathroom rads?

Suppose u can check this to see which side warms up first.

Please help.

sounds like a balancing act to me have you done that ?From cold when you have plenty of time remove all TRV heads fully open lock shields put heating on find out which radiator warms up first turn lock shield down on that one then quickly go to next warm one adjust valve and so on until you have done them all include the none TRV rads also, but ere to the generous side on them ,then put the TRV heads back and set onto required setting.
Easier said than done though you may need to do it over successive days to get it fine tuned hth Tez

If you have TRV's then just set them all to 3 and the rads will get warm eventually and make sure you have bled all the air out of the rads aswell...

what you are trying to achieve with balance is to direct the flow of hot water to where it is needed first/most maybe downstairs or even to a certain room then you can control the room temp with the TRV this also helps the pump hth Tez

I had checked pump speed previously,which is situated inside boiler. It is set at 3,which is max setting.

I will try method of tezestwing next when i have a few hours to spare without kids. I have done exactly what you said except for removing trvs. What is the advantage of this,is it to make sure they are operating correctly,or is is possible they are not connected correctly ie 5 setting maybe 3???or is this not possible

I have checked all rads for air,nothing in any of them.

I have only rads upstairs,underfloor downstairs

Yes the removal of the TRV tops only, after you have put to no5 just to make sure they are responding ( get hotter) is to remove any possible restrictions, it is unlikely that they will malfunction at 2 year old, then put back set at no5 when you have balanced the system then adjust down to suit,not sure about the under floor as there may be zone valves involved but should still have some sort of heat control present that can be addressed hth Tez

its very common for trv's to get stuck especially when they've not been used all summer. try removing the head, if the radiator then gets hot but goes cold again when you put the head back on then its a faulty head. if you remove the head and the radiator stays cold then its the valve at fault, try oiling the pin whilst pushing it up and down and try gently tapping the side of the valve with a spanner, see if that helps.
