Okay, Daddy's era ... 1973, Barbarians v All Blacks.

If you've never seen this before, it's BRILLIANT.

The most hilarious Haka ever.

The guy 6th from the right is just playing the air guitar.

This Haka still makes me cry with laughter. I will never get tired of watching this.

Would you be intimidated by this ?

And just by way of balance, the famous Gareth Edwards try from the same game.

Just for the breathtaking 10 seconds after Phil Bennett gathers up the loose ball in front of the goalposts ...

... this clip is worth watching again, and again, and again, and again, and again ...

rugby was amateur then and so was the haka. Both are now fully professional, hence throat-slitting instead of air guitar. Results generally the same, though.

You seldom see the likes of the Edwards try, though. Shane Williams is about the only player who could do that these days.

Yes, he's awesome.

Shame he's not English

Brilliant, jno.

That haka was more like a mass game of charades.

When you say the results are generally the same, the All Blacks lost that game against the Barbarians ...

... or is that what you meant ... New Zealand defying the odds by choking and losing when it comes to the crunch?

That only happens once in four years, I believe. Pity there are hardly any Baabaas matches any more (I missed last month's).

I think the haka was more performance than challenge in those days, and its contents varied, as they still do. The classic Te Rauparaha haka (the Kamate kamate one) is still far and away the best because it seems to build up whereas the others just meander, The one they did against England last month was tedious.
