This seems to be a quiz question but doesn't seem to be worded correctly as the nickname is mother carey's goose or chickens for the stormy petrel as sequin points out. I think its Nelly as in Furtado.  Nelly was a name used by whalers for the Petrel. Not sure where "Popular" comes in to it though.
