shortest day

well today 21st dec is the shortest day for daylight hours
so after today it will start to stay lighter later by a few minutes every day, hooray ! .

If this is the shortest day, then are our tempers shortest today, as well?

I was told that the days get longer by 4 minutes every day. Does anyone know if this is right or not?
