every few months my dog (bitch) will not come back to the lead, we have tried everything but she appears scared and defiant. She is missing for hours and then suddenly appears at the door any other time she is good as gold. Has anyone experienced this behaviour with their bitch?

Has she been spayed, bitches should go "on heat" every 6 months, but this is not cast in stone.

She might be looking for a suitable mate.

im knew to the sight so been reading through . i have black standard poodle  bitch 5 years  and yes its happened to me ...last night i took her on regular walk to local park usually she comes back to lead just before gate but decided to turn deaf went out of gate onto local road forcing car to STOP..... she has been spayed by the way so now going back to basic recall training on lead and once feel confident hope that she will behave herself of lead...
