TV aerial booster problem.

I fitted a new aerial in the attic and got an aerial booster out of Argos as I'm eventually gonna run it to 3 outlets. At the minute just one of the outlets is fitted. The thing is when I run the aerial lead straight through to the outlet the picture is fine, however when I run the outlet off the booster the picture is sort of snowy/grainy. It isn't crackling or jumping but it is noticably worse with the booster used. What would be the reason for this?

The booster isn't amplifying, as it should.

I agree with buildersmate but it could be worthwhile checking that you've made the connections to your aerial leads correctly.Sometimes the odd strand of screening (the outer braiding of the cable) can still be in contact with the inner copper core of the cable. Cheers, Andy.

Don't think so cos when I link the lead from the aerial straight to the lead going to the outlet the picture is fine, it's only when I connect the aerial to the booster and the outlet lead to the booster that it causes a poor picture.

Are you sure you've got some power connected to it?

Also make sure the booster you are using works with the aerial youve got i.e. if you have the new high gain aerial, digital to some people, you will have to have the appropriate booster or it wont work properly....

Now ye tell me. It is actually a high gain aerial so that might be what was wrong. I'll look into it before I get another. I'm wondering would it just be ok to split the aerial 3 ways without a booster, might try it.

I think Disco Fever is correct . I had similar problems using an existing aerial and an SLX booster.
Aerial direct to tv was ok but via the booster BBC2 was unwatchable on analogue and a lot of digital channels esp. Fiver and Film4 weren't very good.
Fitted a new wideband aerial and the digital pics via the booster are better than without and the analogue reception is also very good . Try fitting a wideband aerial, one with the digital tick on it.
This is a similar 14 element aerial to the one I fitted but it came with a short mast and fixing bracket I don't think this has one of those.
