my mother (she was Italian) used to make something called crispel(not sure of the spelling) they were a kind of savory donut which we had with salt usually at Christmas - she cooked them in olive oil on an open fire - has anyone else every had them or knows how to make them please

Just finished making a batch of crispels! They are raisin doughnuts that are normally sprinkled in sugar with very little in the batter. Learned to make them from my husband's Grandmother and Great Aunt (both of whom were straight off the boat from Italy!) You can e-mail me at [email protected] for the recipe if interested ....
