I remember buying these dreadful "Top of the Pops" albums from Woolworths (hit songs sung by session musicians) but the first proper record was Bridget The Midget by Ray Stevens. No I'm not that embarrassed.
First singles, Wunderbaa by Ten Pole Tudor and stand and deliver by Adam and the Ants; First Album owned Now that's what I call music 4 (was a present) first album purchased For those about to rock, ACDC; first CD Dire straits brothers in Arms (I think!). Do I respect myself for it, hell yes am going home now to play Ten Pole Tudor and remember being thrown out of school discos!
Junior - Mamma used to say for 10p out of asda. The great feeling of having my own music even though it was naff it was very liberating as up to then i had only had my big sister's music to listen to so i respect it mightily as it opened numerous doors for me.
Thye first single i bought was 'John I'm Only Dancing' and rthe first album was 'Santana Abraxas' by Santana, and I've been a major fan of both artists ever since.
Sorry - 'John I'm Only Dancing' was by David Bowie - and I paid 3.00 for two tickets to take my girlfriend to see him on the 'Ziggy' tour. Was it worth it? What do you think!
I think the first single I bought was the theme tune to the Rupert the Bear cartoon (yes, it was released as a single!) - 'Rupert, Ruper the Bear, everyone sing his name'.
Am I embarrassed? Well, if I had been 20 when I bought it, probably yes, but as I was only a kiddie, I think I can be excused, can't I??
It was an album by the Bay City Rollers, bought with my pocket money when I was seven. And all seven-year-old girls in Scotland at the time were buying Bay City Rollers albums so I refuse to be ashamed. The best thing was, though, that my gran bought me lovely white nylon Bay City Rollers socks the same day. They had the faces of each Roller running up the side . . . I'm ashamed of that.
The first ever 7" was (please remember I was only 10 at the time when I bought it) "We have a dream" by the 1982 Scotland world cup team. "Gawn yersel big man!"
