It's thousands of bits per second (not bytes) - to turn it into bytes, divide bits by 8.

Just in answer to Wildwood's comments there... if you check most literature relating to the Internet industry (especially ISP's: my area of work) you will find that kilobits per second (kbit/s) are the generic term for data transmission rates. I haven't seen anyone try and use bps for several years.

In answer to wildwood (sorry for the delay) I got the info from the answer bank! Don't know who could have been DaveRH. If you see 'what is wap?' a question on download speeds is answered stating 9.6kbits/s. Then I was curious so I asked. Thanks for your answer. ( and everyone esle who answered)
