Help! Kitten suckling on dog

I've had my kitten for nearly a week now and loved the fact she was getting on with my two year old dog yet she's started suckling. Snuggles (the kittten) seems to think that Diva (the dog) is her mum which is sweet but every morning she keeps trying to get milk from her. Diva doesn't seem to mind as she's happy that snuggles is comfortable but her nipples are looking sore and red. We are trying to stop Snuggles but she is very persistant and we don't know what to do.

Awww...poor wee thing! Well....I really wouldn't worry about it. The kitten may have been taken from her mum a bit too early,and she is using the dog as a surrogate mum. I think it may be more for comfort than actual milk. As long s the dog does not mind, I wouldn't try to stop it...that will happen as the kitten grows. You could try giving her a warm hotwater bottle to cuddle with...it may distract her from the dog.

The dog will soon resist the kitten if the dog gets too uncomfortable. Separation of dog & kit for 2weeks or so should break the habit and avoid any further damage to dogs nipples.

Aww cute. My kitty did that with her elder brother until she became too big and brother got fed up. They were best of friends so dont worry about it. When the dog has had enough he will put a stop to it. They will be best firends and you wont have to worry about ant cat dog issues.
