if you look down the page to the questions about the 1911 census, ou have another link there too, try that and see what you turn up.
To make a good start you need to have written down some names dates and places to give yourself the basis for checking particular counties for census returns 1911, 1901 and back. you can look at the GRO index of birth and marriage registrations too and if you understand how they work you don'enecessarily need to join up to do some preliminary research.
Also, i would check out the site for the Bath and Somerset family history society as the name is common in that county, but there is also a village in dorset with the same name, therefore ity seems to be a place name, nost are if they end in Ton anyway
