I'm no Scientist, but assume the Earth revolves around the sun in a clockwise fashion.
What would result if it changed direction and revloved anti clockwise? What implications would this have to the Earth and the Universe, if any?

also if you look at the bottom there are also links to different rotation of the earth and direction
anything more complex than that may need the opinion of a physicist or someone well versed in geophysics and also hypothetical questions that answers can be guessed at but im in doubt if they can be proven other than by calcuation and theory.
unless anyone here knows how to change the rotation of the earth and its rotation around the sun

I'm thinking very hard to try to come up with a major effect and I must say it's pretty difficult.
Obviously there would be changes with regard to what stars apear in the sky at which times but that's about it.
However the Earth and the vast majority of all the rest of the Solar system rotate in the same direction because they all formed from a large cloud of debris and as they compacted the spin sped up like a spinning ice skater pulling in her arms.
If the Earth alone orbited in a different direction from everything else for some unknown reason, Id expect the average impact velocity of meteorites to be much much greater.
That would probably mean that impacts of the scale to cause major climatic disasters would be much more frequent and we might not be here.
PS - I do hate the word Boffin - I think it has overtones of social inadequacy and promotes the idea that clever people are somehow lacking in other basic skills.
Just because the media likes eccentrics like Patrick Moore or Heinz Wolf doesn't make them representative of Scientists

No difference at all. If you think about it we tend to assume that the north pole is at what we call the top. As far as the solar system goes we could just as easily reverse our pole labelling, it is only by chance that what we call North now is always at the top. Imagine it was the other way round then invert the whole lot and the Earth is orbiting in a different direction. Interesting question. Take no notice of legend he's a well known numpty!
Now if you are asking what would happenned if the planet actually slowed down, stopped an went he other way, then that can't happen, if we slowed significantly we'd fall into the sun.

If the Moon still rotated in the same direction then the frequency and magnitude of tides would be different. If the rotation of the Moon was also reversed there would be imperceptible change - the other planets barely affect the tides.
The Sun rotates. I wonder if this means that the solar wind also rotates? If it does we would move through it at a different speed. I don't think this would be noticable, and most people wouldn't notice the different rate that sunspots moved.
The biggest change would be that newspapers would have to reverse the order of their horoscopes!
