Shaving

I have a really embarrasingly patchy 'tache and it doesn't connect with sideburns or beard beneath. The advice I have always been given is 'shave it regularly and it will get thicker'.

Does this actually speed up growth, or make more hairs grow, or does it just mean that you don't notice how thin it is until you are ready to grow a beard?

Sorry, shaving hair does not make it grow thicker, more quickly, or anything else!

Shaving some hair will make the ends of that hair blunt rather than tapering off to a point. In this way it'll appear thicker.

For it to literally be thicker, you'd have to have more hair follicles appear.
