I have an unwanted gift from xmas. It's a eau de toilette gift set. Without a receipt would it be possible to try my luck getting its value in vouchers from any high street store that stocks the item? Would they be able to know that the box hasnt been purchased in their shop when scanning it?

They wouldn' know it wasn't from them just by scanning it, unless they only sold a special version of the set or they do what Boots do and stick a little sticker on it.

No shop is obliged to give you a refund, but you could try the elderly relative gave me this and not my thing line. They said they got it from you, but couldn't find the receipt. If you make it clear you only want to swap it or get vouchers they should be pretty reasonable.

If not, then eBay.
Better to recycle it - give it as a birthday or Christmas gift to somebody else, or sell it on eBay.
Whens your birthday Ethel!LOL
At work if it is an item sold in other outlets it would be an exchange only for the current selling price. That would not include exchange for a gift card.

Yes I know that without a receipt its value would only be the current one which could be less than it was a month ago! I had a look on ebay and figure I could sell it for about 15 inclusive of postage, so probably would make a tenner out of it. I think I could make more in shop vouchers!
I'm glad i'm not related to you! You look at gifts given to you with a view to how much money you can get for them............lovely o_o

Yes daffy654 I do. I'm glad that you're not related to me either!
you won't be entitled to vouchers as an exchange, only goods, it is a service to be offered anything when things are unsuitable or unwanted, not a right in law.

yes it is a service and as it is an unwanted gift without receipt they wont give me cash but they might give me vouchers. Big deal.
it is unlikely you would get vouchers but there is no harm in trying your luck. Go for it.
john lewis is very good at getting a refund see if they stock it first
