Hi. It's probably a bit late to ask this question, but it's bugging me. In the above crossword the answer to 23 across "He deals with the letter S in general" is "Lessee" I cannot understand why. Can anyone explain this to me?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Because the letter S is spelt ESS, and it's in the general - General Lee.
A lessee 'deals with the letter" - ie a person who lets.

L(ess)ee - the letter 'S', ess, in general Lee.
Lee (general) + ESS
L ess EE . . . . deals with the Landlord / Letter

S = 'ess'
General LEE
